New York State Broadband Assessment
Information About the Assessment
For more than twenty years, ECC Technologies has worked with counties, municipalities and electric cooperatives across the country with a focus on community and regional access to broadband for residents and businesses.
The State of New York has engaged ECC to manage this program for the State. In conjunction with other work sponsored by the New York Department of Public Service, this assessment will provide state, county and local leaders with information that will improve access to broadband.
Improved broadband means more job and educational opportunities, better access to health care and more benefits.
How This Assessment Works.
Any information that you enter into this assessment is completely private. Your name is not associated with any data which is collected on this site. Please review the Privacy Policy and Frequently Asked Questions page for more information.
Speed Test. The first part of the survey measures the speed of your current internet connection. This is why it is important that you take this part of the survey on a computer or tablet that is in your home or office and that is NOT on the cellular network.
This lets us know if the speed available to you is fast enough for telemedicine visits, working from home, or even entertainment options such as streaming movies and music. It also helps your county determine where needs are in your county for the infrastructure necessary to expand high speed service.
Assessment. The second part of the survey is an questionnaire. The questions asked of you are based on the way you answer the following two questions: (1) We ask for your physical location so we can determine which type of services are available near where you live or have a business, and who existing service providers are in that area, and (2) We will ask whether your response is for a household or for a business. We also ask you whether you have internet access at the address you provided.
Some of the questions you are shown will depend on how you answered the above two questions. If you are reporting for a home address for example, we won’t ask you business related questions. Likewise if you don’t have internet at a business location, we will not ask you your service provider for a residential location.
If you operate a business or a farm from your home address, we would like to ask you some additional questions to ensure we are meeting your needs. Instructions in the assessment will guide you in the process.
Contact Us and Feedback. At different places in this assessment, you can reach out to us via an on-line form or direct email. Within the survey tool itself however, is a blank where you can provide us with information about how you feel about your broadband service (or lack thereof). This is your opportunity to express exactly how you feel about your ability to access quality broadband in your community.
Conclusion. Once you have completed the Speed Test and the Assessment, you will be directed to a Thank You page and that’s it! All done! All in all, it will take about 6-9 minutes to complete the Speed Test and the Assessment. And, once through, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you have helped your community and your state continue to move forward!
